Strongly growing Print on Demand (PoD) business: Zeitfracht and CPI continue to invest in the future

Erfurt, October 10, 2024

Zeitfracht Medien is working consistently with its printing partner CPI books on the further development of print on demand (PoD). The PoD print shop located in the logistics center was connected directly to the conveyor system in the spring of this year. This has increased the speed of delivery in the bookstores' direct customer business and in overnight deliveries.

Further investments were made in the production facility at the beginning of September. With an expanded machine park, book cover production in hardcover production in particular will become more efficient and faster in future. This will enable Zeitfracht to meet the significant increase in demand and the company believes it is well positioned for further growth in the future.

Thomas Raff, Managing Director of Zeitfracht Medien: "Our print-on-demand production, with more than 1.7 million titles now available, is growing steadily. The PoD approach not only significantly expands the diversity of the product range for the book trade, but is also a step towards more sustainable production. By avoiding overproduction and reducing transportation costs, we are making a tangible contribution to environmental protection. We will continue to expand the PoD area, which is strategically important for us, in the future."

Robert Höllein, CPI books, adds: "Fast, reliable and good quality. These are the main expectations of the market. That's why CPI has invested in additional capacity and can now produce books (especially hardcovers) even faster."

Kay Wissendorf, Head of Purchasing, is equally satisfied: "Thanks to the further expansion of production capacity, we can respond quickly to customer requests and deliver orders just in time. The freshly printed books are transported directly from the print shop via the packing department to the outgoing goods department. Customers benefit from this optimization through shorter delivery times and an even larger selection."

The cooperation partners still see great potential for the coming years, especially in the public sector and with foreign publishers who would like to sell their books in German-speaking countries.
